Making the best out of the worst: Ekou Sanchez found his calling amidst the pandemic

17-year-old Ekou Sanchez is a musician straight out of Chicago, Illinois who went against the grain and pursued the art of making music at a time where a devastating phenomenon hit the world. The safety of isolation did not come without a price, he struggled against mental health issues, and music was his only comfort as he fought against depression and anxiety during these trying times.

Young Ekou has always had an eye for the arts, he spent his dark days in isolation making beats for fun. Music was his only companion, it became his rock. It was not long before he realized that these pieces of music he created could help others the same way it did for him, he decided that it was time to make a difference and share a part of his soul with the world and hopefully make it a better place for those going through the same struggles he did, in his own special way.

Passionately soothing

Ekou makes music that soothes a person’s mind, body, and soul. His tracks feature a calm vibe that feels like a shoulder you can lean on, he channels his musical talent in order to make works of art that serve a purpose. The pandemic brought out the artist in him, he shares:

“At the time I had been producing my own beats privately just for fun, but I knew that these relaxing melodies could benefit others just as much as they did me. I realized that it was time to go public and share my passion for music with the world.”

It has only been a few months since Ekou launched his Instagram channel, but his following has been booming ever since. This artist understood the assignment, his music is a breath of fresh air in a stressful time such as today. 

As the famous line in the movie Dead Poets Society goes, “The human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” With everything going on with the world right now, Ekou’s passion for music is exactly what humanity needs.  

A message for the growing crowd

Ekou’s journey has been both fulfilling and educating, he learned and has grown quite a lot both as an artist and a person. 

“I’ve learned a variety of lessons. First of all, it’s extremely hard to blow up in the industry, but I know that I will be the next artist topping the billboards before you know it” he said.

He wants to be a symbol for his fans, to be someone they can look up to and draw strength and inspiration from. An icon of determination and discipline, he leaves a message for the growing crowd:

“I would want my fans to know that no matter how hard life may get, it’s important to stay focused on what you love.”

The path of being a musician is hard, but he knows that all it takes is determination and a passion for the craft. He is breathing life into every lyric and melody he sends out into the world.
