Now, It’s Time for Some P-pop as Filipino Group SB19 Dominates the Charts

For sure, all the Pinoy fans out there are beyond proud of their own blood’s work of art! Who wouldn’t feel the emotions of the famous song Bazinga of the P-pop group SB19? And for the first time, P-pop unseats the long-standing highest rank of the Billboard Hot Trending Music Charts, Butter, performed by the world’s most beloved K-pop group BTS. This is, indeed, worth blowing one’s own trumpet.

The Story Behind SB19’s Bazinga

SB19 is a Filipino group of male singers, called a boy band, which started in 2018. Basically, they promote an Original Filipino Music subgenre called Pinoy pop or P-pop. However, according to some accounts, the group’s journey is not as smooth as we imagine it to be. There had been a lot of criticisms thrown at them.

In this world full of mainstream music like K-pop, rock, pop, country, etc., there had been a lot of animosity in their art. And with people now having fast internet connections and unlimited access online, they live digitally which made it easier for them to throw unwarranted comments.

However, these young men did not train for three years just to be crestfallen from such baseless incitement of hatred. As a way of them fighting back, they released this song called Bazinga. This song shows all their critics that whatever comments they get, the ardor in their hearts will never fade. They will continue believing in themselves and do what they love, their music. As the song says, “hate nyo’y gasoline,” the group evidently used all the bad comments as fuel to even do better.

The Prize They Get

Of course, it all paid off in the end! As the old saying goes, success is never an accident. It is a result of hard work and perseverance. Now, SB19’s Bazinga is the first OPM to rank as Top 1 in the Billboard Hot Trending Music Charts and dethrone a K-pop hit. In fact, it even set a record as the longest-staying track in the said chart when it entered its seventh week.

Even if as of this writing, the track is at rank 6, its 14 weeks of stay in the Billboard chart is a gigantic achievement. This is most especially true to a group that has shown that there is more kind than hostile people in this world who actually know how to appreciate the fruit of hard work.

In this increasingly digitizing time, may we always be responsible to spread a positive outlook, just like SB19. Who knows of the art we can produce or the greater heights we may climb by being humble and grounded with values?
