Davy Sage: An Artist with Exceptional Music Wizardry

Every person in this world owns a story that is unique to them. Some were able to share it with the world through writing a book while others did it through music. And just like music, some stories can be sad while some can be happy.

For Davy Sage, no matter how hard life has been for him, he will always use music to tell stories that bring uplifting feelings.

His Musical Influence

Davy sage is a Nigerian-born recording artist and songwriter. Growing up in Nigeria with his 4 siblings being raised by a single mother, Davy witnessed the realities of life at such a young age. He grew up in the city of Ilorin, Kwara State in North-Central Nigeria. Grasping for solace, he found himself more and more inclined with music as his brother was a party DJ. He was always with him in his rehearsals or when he was performing and ever since 13 years old, music has been a part of Davy’s everyday life. From listening to 90s Hip-hop and R&B to enjoying Afrobeat, all this influenced his story and taste of music.

Things started to change when he moved to Canada in 2010 to live with his sister. Suddenly, he found himself in a new environment oozing with opportunities that will allow him to be the person that he wants to be no matter what it is. Davy chose to pursue what gave him comfort since young and in 2014, he started his professional career signing with an independent record label BeMajor Music in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Things might have been complex at the start, Davy pushed to be the best version of himself, every day honing his craft and sharpening his musical identity. Inspired by his favorite artists such as Akon, Kranium, PopCan, Tuface, Fela Kuti, Maleek Berry, Asa, and so on, Davy Sage embarked on a journey to reach the pinnacle of the music industry taking one step at a time.

His Musical Identity

Born in Nigeria and now residing in Canada, Davy Sage’s identity as a musician is a combination of different cultures and genres. Living the DJ life at age 13 while being fond of 90s music, he described his music as:

“A mix between Afro/Dancehall, Reggae, and RnB. And my sound comes with emotions and vibes. I like making music that brings a good feeling.”

True enough, Davy’s music is so unique that it can not be boxed into one genre nor is he worried about those kinds of generalizations. He knew in himself that he was born to be an artist and a storyteller in his generation. A one-of-a-kind wonder that is being raised up with every difficulty he is facing. Hardships are no foreign to Davy’s life and part of his music wizardry came from being able to overcome these challenges and turn them into music that uplifts other people.

That is exactly the story behind his latest song called Let me know” which he wrote and recorded last year during the lockdown. He was going through personal problems while working on his EP so this one really is a special song that is close to his heart. They say that the worst experiences make the best songs and that is certainly true to Davy who is like gold that went through a refiner’s fire. He came out stronger, bolder, and more mature in his craft. He notes this song as a blend of Afropop and RnB that is full of emotions and vibes.

Enjoying his music journey, Davy Sage learned many lessons in his career and one of them is loving yourself. To love yourself, you have to learn to accept who you are as a person and have the courage and humility to surround yourself with a team that believes in your dream. That is certainly a good message for his fans eager to see him win and grow further as an artist. Learn more about Davy Sage through his socials: @DavySageMusic
